Join a leading AI lab's cutting-edge GenAI team and help build foundational AI models from the ground up. We're seeking MLOps Engineers with hands-on experience in large language model infrastructure across any of four areas: GPU kernel programming, performance profiling and trace analysis, debugging accelerated and distributed workloads, and high-throughput inference serving. # 2\. Key Responsibilities

- Design challenging, domain-relevant tasks across four areas, GPU kernels, performance profiling, debugging, and inference serving, and write accurate, well-structured solutions to them.
    
- Guide research and engineering teams to close knowledge gaps and improve AI model performance on ML systems, training infrastructure, and framework-level topics.

# 3\. Core Qualifications

- 2+ years of hands-on professional experience in ML systems, ML infrastructure, model serving, or GPU and accelerator performance engineering. This is a hands-on systems role rather than an applied modelling or data science one.
    
- Practical experience in at least one of the following, with more than one a strong plus: writing or optimizing custom GPU kernels (CUDA, Triton, Pallas); performance profiling and trace analysis (Kineto, torch.profiler, Nsight, XLA or JAX profiler); debugging distributed or accelerator-bound workloads; serving large language models at scale (vLLM, SGLang, TensorRT-LLM, Ray Serve, KV cache, paged attention, continuous batching).
    
- Working production experience with JAX and/or PyTorch. Framework-level depth is a strong plus: custom operators, distributed training (FSDP, DDP, DeepSpeed, Megatron), or compiler and graph-level work.

This domain lives on the dual-use line more than most. The same casework knowledge that identifies a substance describes how it was produced; the same precursor list that supports an investigation is a shopping list read backwards. A model that refuses a routine identification or casework question is failing as badly as one that answers a question it shouldn't. Drawing that line reliably is why we need practitioners rather than generalists.

## Background we're looking for

We're looking for people who have done casework — identifying substances and precursors, and defending the conclusion in a report or on the stand. What matters most is being able to tell a routine professional question from one that's fishing for something else: the same precursor knowledge that identifies a clandestine route is the route. ## Help map public defenders' work

We are recruiting 100 current or former public defenders for a remote research study through Project Mercator. We want to understand the work you personally did, not an ideal job description.

## What you will do

In the first survey, describe your primary responsibilities, tasks, smaller pieces of work, and which tasks need outputs from other tasks. You can also describe different versions of the same task. Written instructions and help from the study coordinator are provided. No outside research or real work product is required.

Wave 1 pays $100 per hour of reviewed survey time, up to 90 minutes ($150 maximum). If you need more time, contact the coordinator before continuing beyond the cap.

A later survey will ask selected participants to review a combined task tree and add details. Its scope and compensation will be confirmed separately before you begin.

## Screening

Submit your resume, then complete the Corporate Designer calibration assessment — about 55 minutes, and untimed. It has two parts:

1. **Preference labelling (≈45 min)** — download and evaluate three real client deliverables: an Excel workbook, a PowerPoint deck and a Word document. Score each from 1 to 5 against the project's scale and write an evidenced justification. Each file is graded on both the score and the justification. The score is exact-match against a calibrated answer key: one point away earns zero, the same as any other wrong answer.

You will use a specialized version of the app on your own Mac to complete everyday tasks by voice, then log and rate the AI's responses in your bilingual language.

Key Responsibilities

- Use your voice to compose messages, emails, and notes across everyday apps
    
- Direct the AI to take actions such as generating images, formatting text, applying spreadsheet formulas, or summarizing documents
    
- Record accurate transcripts of your spoken queries, and produce a cleaned-up transcript

Ideal Qualifications
