Role Overview

Mercor is hiring experienced Judges to support a groundbreaking project with a leading AI research lab. The role involves helping build and evaluate AI systems designed to simulate complex judicial reasoning. You’ll contribute to crafting realistic legal scenarios and provide expert feedback on how AI agents interpret evidence, apply precedent, and make procedural decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and refine simulated legal environments modeling pre-trial motions, plea deals, bail hearings, and sentencing decisions.

• Calibrate step-by-step rubrics for evaluating the soundness of AI reasoning (e.g., admissibility, standard of review).

• Evaluate AI-generated judicial outputs for legal accuracy, fairness, and bias.

• Identify potential sources of disparate impact or constitutional concerns within scenario designs.

• Provide asynchronous feedback to AI research teams to improve system performance and alignment with legal norms.

Ideal Qualifications

• Current or former U.S. Judge, Magistrate, Administrative Law Judge, or experienced litigation/arbitration consultant.

• 10+ years of experience practicing or ruling in criminal, civil, or administrative law.

• Deep knowledge of procedural justice, evidentiary standards, and sentencing guidelines.

• Familiarity with judicial writing, legal reasoning frameworks, and courtroom decision-making under time constraints.

• Comfortable working asynchronously and providing structured written feedback.

• Bonus: Experience participating in legal education, advisory boards, or judicial bias reform initiatives.

Project Timeline

• Start Date: Immediate (July 15th)

• Duration: 4 weeks

• Commitment: Part-time, ~20 hours/week

Contract and Payment Terms

• You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
• This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
• Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
