Role Overview
As an engineer at Mercor you will be focussed on improving the developer experience for SWE’s at Mercor. The goal is to identify and execute initiatives to unlock productivity, guardrails for the global Mercor engineering team.
The general responsibilities and skills are listed below. This is a high leverage role that will impact the productivity of all Mercor engineers.
Responsibilities

Design and build tools and processes that help engineers move faster, automate manual work, and improve quality (local dev environments, code generation, CLI tools, automate repetitive activities, linting, security scans, dependency updates)

Use AI / AI tools to rethink how we can become the most productive engineering team in the industry.

Partner with engineering teams: Work with FE and backend engineers to identify bottlenecks, debug friction in workflows, and roll out solutions that scale to the entire team.

Champion modern practices: Standardize the development environment using best practices and improve testing strategies.

Measure & evolve: Instrument tools to track adoption and impact, and iterate based on feedback from users (Mercor engineers).
Skills

Background in platform engineering or developer productivity roles.

Experience building developer environments using Docker, devcontainers, docker-compose, or native tooling.

Proficient in at least one of Python, Go, or scripting languages, and comfortable with automation.

Familiarity with AWS and cloud-native practices.

Strong debugging and problem-solving skills; you care about making other engineers’ lives easier.

Bonus: exposure to AI-assisted coding or developer tools.
