Material Science Expert (Masters/PhDs)

Mercor is seeking Legal Experts (J.D.s) for a premier project with one of the world's top AI labs.

In this role, you will contribute your legal expertise to a cutting-edge project evaluating AI agents' ability to navigate legal databases and perform real-world legal research workflows. Specifically, you will create challenging, realistic tasks that test AI systems on professional legal workflows like case law research, regulatory analysis, and document review.

Ideal Qualifications:

• Have a J.D. from a top US law school.

• Have experience with legal research platforms (CourtListener, Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, etc.)

• Have professional experience in litigation, regulatory work, or legal research

• Have high attention to detail.

• Have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Have excellent proficiency in English.

• Are currently based in the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, UK, or Australia.

Key Responsibilities:

• You will work asynchronously with a team of highly qualified experts across legal domains.

• You will create detailed evaluation rubrics for AI agent performance

• You will craft realistic legal research tasks involving case law searches, regulatory analysis, and citation extraction across federal and state databases

• The project is 15-20 hours of work per week with potential for increased hours and extension.

Role Start Date

• This role will begin in December with applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

Interview Process

• You will complete a short interview to assess your domain expertise.

• You will be paid for up to 1 hour of onboarding time including the screening process and a few onboarding videos if you are hired.

Contract and Payment Terms

• You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
• This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
• Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
