What you'll do

Confirm every case, statute, and regulation is still good law for the point cited; catch negative Shepard's treatment

Catch non-existent or misdescribed cases; verify quotes, holdings, and pin cites

Judge completeness: is controlling authority found; are on-point cases missed; are 50-state / multi-jurisdiction splits kept distinct

Verify currency: the version of the law in force on the operative date

Distinguish binding vs. persuasive authority; require verify-before-finalize
Requirements

Frequent Lexis+ use - weekly or more - for substantive legal research in your current or recent role

2+ years of professional legal-research experience

Reflexive Shepard's / KeyCite use; can spot a bad cite, misstated holding, or superseded statute on sight

J.D. and bar admission, MLIS / law librarian, or equivalent research-heavy experience

Contract and Payment Terms
- You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
- This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
- Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
- Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
- Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
