Multimodal Optics

Role Overview We are seeking experts in optics and mathematics to solve and evaluate multimodal reasoning tasks involving text, equations, ray diagrams, lens and mirror setups, graphs, charts, or images.

Responsibilities

Solve optics and mathematical physics problems using textual and visual information. Interpret ray diagrams, lens/mirror diagrams, interference patterns, diffraction setups, graphs, and equations. Apply concepts such as reflection, refraction, Snell’s law, lens and mirror equations, magnification, interference, diffraction, and polarization. Explain reasoning clearly and verify final answers. Flag ambiguous or incomplete problem statements.

Qualifications

Strong background in optics, physics, applied mathematics, engineering, or a related field. Experience with geometric optics, wave optics, lenses, mirrors, diffraction, and optical instruments. Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.

Contract and Payment Terms

• You will be engaged as an independent contractor.
• This is a fully remote role that can be completed on your own schedule.
• Projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early depending on needs and performance.
• Your work at Mercor will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution.
• Payments are weekly on Stripe or Wise based on services rendered.
